James Duff

James Duff is a GTA born multi-instrumentalist who started his musical journey taking up the guitar at the age of 13. In 2016 he completed his bachelors degree in classical music from Dalhousie University. During his studies James became fascinated by a wide variety of instruments and musical traditions and has studied instruments from the Middle East, North Africa and India. He continues to study, compose, arrange and perform music informed by the cultural richness of Toronto life and imparts a wide variety of these skills to his young students as well. James continues to perform on viola da gamba, guitar, mandolin, and dilruba under the name “The Tesiphonia Duo” with pianist Mehdi Karbasi. The duo continue to create music with roots in The Middle east and India and enjoy contrasting these beautiful pieces alongside modern classical repertoire.
