Jacy Desmond

Jacy Desmond is a French-New Zealander composer, pianist and singer.

A lover of Jazz and Classical music, and fascinated by Latino, african and Middle Eastern rhythms, Jacy Desmond attempts to combine these different styles into one – one might call it "Jazzical" – while making references to the original styles from time to time.

In 1991 he arrived in France and performed in many jazz clubs (mainly in Paris) with his trio.

2003 saw him record "Between Cradle and Grave", a live solo piano album of his own compositions.

"In Desmondís original work, we find a stream of consciousness out-pouring of music peppered with references to the styles of classical composers we caught the odd passing homage to Bach, Brahms, Chopin, Ravel, Janacek and Messiaen; and the beauty is that different folk will hear different strokes"

(Laurence Jenkins ñ reporter, musicologue, musician)

Since 2006 he has been giving concerts of his own compositions, jazz standards and improvisations on classical pieces. He is choirmaster and professor of jazz at the Conservatory of Gentilly in France.
