Kamancello, comprised of Shahriyar Jamshidi, kamanche and Raphael Weinroth-Browne, cello, is an East-meets-West (Kurdish-Iranian and Western) duo that blurs musical genre conventions and cultural boundaries with their highly evocative improvised performances. Founded in summer 2014, Kamancello is poised to release their groundbreaking debut full-length album later this year.
In this musical journey, you enjoy sounds of Kurdish heritage from the heart of Zagros Mountains, west of Iran through east of Turkey Agrî (Ararat) Mount area. The passage is a brief glance at the forgotten cultural elements and the music of the Kurds in the region. Kamancello will offer a set of improvisation and vocal Kurdish songs weaving a unique musical tale that mixes the subtlety of Persian and taste of Mesopotamia with the rigor of Western classical music
