7 Princesses is a magical series of theatrical dances choreographed by Shahrokh Moshkin Ghalam, inspired by the 7 Princesses (Haft Peykar), the renowned romantic epic by Nizami Ganjavi written in Persian in 1197, which has become a literary classic in both the East and the West. – an erotic allegory about the quest for human perfection steeped in numerology, geometry, astrology, and color symbolism. The poem is not only a masterpiece of erotic literature, but a profound virtuous chef d’oeuvre.

7 Princesses is by far one of the greatest romantic epic poems in Persian literature. It Is a romanticized biography of King Bahram Gur, the Sassanid Emperor.

The poem is distinguished by a number of non-linear plots and is full of symbolism and hidden meanings. The focus is on a series of seven stories narrated about King Bahram by Seven Princesses, his wives and princesses from different corners of the world from Byzantium to India. Not only does each of the seven princesses come from a different country, or “clime”, but also each is associated with a different color, planet and virtue. In the tale, color is used to represent the seven stages of love of the Sufi tradition, and the evolution from black (impurity) to white (purity).

“Seven” has long been a sacred number, especially in the ancient Middle East. It resonates on many levels: seven colors of the rainbow, seven chakras, and seven planets – known in medieval times as the Moon, Mercury, Venus, Mars, the Sun, Jupiter and Saturn.)
