Ferdows is a Persian immersion and cultural education centre. They are a proud member of Golestan Colab, a collection of eleven Persian immersion schools across the United States. The ideology is a hybrid of Montessori and Waldorf with the focus on language, math, science, art and culture. Although the focus is mainly on Persian language, this is not a language centre. Rather, children become native Persian speakers and get to know their roots by being fully immersed in a nurturing and loving environment, not through direct instructions.

What will be offered at the Tirgan kids yoga tent :

• Engage children using props, games, stories, and music to get everyone involved
• Provide aerobic activity and introducing simple breathing tools and mindfulness techniques to calm children to prepare them to learn
• Create opportunities for positive interaction between children through games and partner yoga

Tassels, Braiding & Knotting: Skills to Make a Persian Carpet
We all know that a Persian carpet is amongst the most treasured possessions in an Iranian household. But did you realize Persian carpet weaving dates back 2500 years? In the tradition of carpet weaving, BMC will teach young patrons different braiding, knotting and tasseling techniques to make a souvenir bracelet, keychain, and more, using colored strings and yarn. Join one of the two workshops at Tirgan 2015, recommended for children ages 9+.
About Boostan Multicultural Collective
Boostan Multicultural Collective was established in 2012 by mother and daughter duo, Mahshid and Golnesa Amani. Since its foundation, BMC has collaborated with the York Region District School Board, Iranian Heritage Committee and Parya Trillium Foundation to name a few, hosting educational workshops for youth. Combining heritage-based curriculums with project-based learning, BMC aims to make classrooms cultural, creative and inclusive. BMC students learn about human civilization through the arts – language, dance, music, games, storytelling, sculpture, painting and much, much more.

The Haft Paykar is a verse romance composed by the classical Persian poet, Nizami Ganjavi (1141-1209) whose work include other romances such as the love stories of Layla and Majnun, and Khosrow and Shirin,
The Haft Paykar tells the story of Bahram Gur, a king of Ancient Iran who marries seven princesses, each from a different realm. He builds for the princesses a palace of seven pavilions; each with it own colour, each dedicated to one of the planets. Bahram Gur then undertakes a journey through the seven pavilions where in each pavilion one of the princesses tells him a story that teaches him about love ...and himself.
Come listen to some of the tales Bahram heard on this journey...a journey weaved into a tapestry from the many coloured threads of story itself!

This activity is suitable for ages 4 to 18. The instructor will set up a table with a few objects on it. Each attendee will receive a pencil and a piece of paper and picks an object/objects to draw. They will be taught 3 different types of shading to choose from to shade their creation. At the end of each session, a gallery-walk will be set up with attendees’ artwork for all to view. Then everyone votes for the best art work. Each session is 60 to 75 minutes long. This all depends on how many people sign up for these classes.

Our toy-making workshops stimulate creativity, innovation and confidence, as we empower the children to make their own toys and learn to create something new and interesting from scratch. Moreover, family members bond together through engaging and exciting activities. We would encourage grandparents to join too. After all, grandparents belong to a generation with no or very limited collection of pre-made toys. Throughout this activity they may share their memories, experiences and skills with the grandchildren, which will give our children further appreciation of how the past generations lived childhood days. Hooshvar Foundation’s toy-making workshops are designed by Parsa Houshvar, a registered occupational therapist with a master’s degree.
