Cyrus Amir-Mokri

Cyrus Amir-Mokri is a partner with the law firm of Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom LLP, resident in its New York office. He handles complex litigation and investigations, and provides strategic advice to clients on global regulatory matters in the financial services sector. He also advises on cyber security preparedness and incident management.
Mr. Amir-Mokri rejoined the firm in 2014 after several years in the United States government working on the global financial crisis. Most recently, he served as the Assistant Secretary for Financial Institutions at the U.S. Department of the Treasury, where he was responsible for developing and coordinating administration policy on issues affecting financial institutions. Before his service at Treasury, Mr. Amir-Mokri was Senior Counsel to the chairman of the Commodities Futures Trading Commission (CFTC). He participated in both the passage and implementation of the Dodd-Frank Act and international financial reform. At both Treasury and the CFTC, Mr. Amir-Mokri worked extensively with U.S. and international financial regulators.
Before beginning his legal career, Mr. Amir-Mokri devoted time to studying Persian history and culture. He received a Ph.D. in history from the University of Chicago. His dissertation covers the political and cultural history surrounding Iran’s constitutional revolution. He is also a graduate of the University of Chicago Law School and of Harvard College.
Mr. Amir-Mokri was awarded the Alexander Hamilton Award, Treasury’s highest honor, for his service. He was included on the Carnegie Corporation’s “Great Immigrants: The Pride of America” list in 2012 and is a recipient of the Ellis Island Medal of Honor. While in graduate school, he was awarded fellowships from the Mellon and MacArthur Foundations. He also is a life member of the Council on Foreign Relations.
