Sandra Oh
Cinema
Born in Nepean, Ontario to Korean immigrants, Sandra Oh (producer• playing the role of Rosie) is one of Canada’s most prominent and respected actresses. She began her career as a ballet dancer and graduated from the National Theatre School in Montreal. She then starred in the stage production of David Mamet’s “Oleanna” and beat out over 1,000 applicants to play the title character in the CBC film, “The Diary of Evelyn Lau”, for which she won the FIPA d’OR at Cannes for best actress.
Oh’s career took off in 1994, when she won a Genie Award for her acclaimed performance in the film, “Double Happiness”. She won her second Genie, five years later, in the film, “Last Night”. Her performance in 2003’s “Under the Tuscan Sun” also received positive reviews. Perhaps her best- known film role was as Stephanie in the 2004 Oscar-winning “Sideways”, a critical hit that earned her numerous awards.
On television, Oh’s role in the HBO comedy “Arli$$” garnered her a Cable Ace award for best supporting actress. She is best known for her portrayal of surgical intern Cristina Yang on ABC’s medical drama, “Grey’s Anatomy”, where Oh’s performance earned her several Emmy nominations and Golden Globe and SAG awards.
Long time friend of director Ann Marie Fleming, Sandra joined the “Window Horses” team not only as the voice of Rosie Ming but as a producer because she was so moved by the graphic novel. She’s eager to help bring this project to the screen as the heart of the story aligns with her interests of promoting peace, diversity and women’s issues.
