Kaveh Bakhtiari was born in Tehran, and grew up in Switzerland, where he moved to at the age of 9.
After his film studies at ECAL in Lausanne (1999-2003), Bakhtiari first drew attention with his first short film, “the suitcase” (2007), which was selected for and has won awards in many festivals around the world: Geneva (award for the best Swiss short film), Regensburg (audience award), Trieste, Tampere, Edinburg, Sydney, Festroia, CineJove Valence, Ficfa Moncton, Badalona... in 2009, he was nominated for the Sundance Institute-NHK International Filmmaker’s Award.
« Stopover », selected for presentation as part of the directors’ fortnight (Quinzaine des réalisateurs) at the Cannes festival 2013, is his first feature- length documentary.
