Massoumeh Jian-Javdan

Massoumeh Jian-Javdan is an Iranian-born visual artist based in Toronto, Canada. In 1994, she left her homeland of Iran, taking with her a strong background in drawing. Her practice explores a variety of multi-media approaches and forms including abstraction, landscapes, and self-portraits. In her work a sense of melancholia and nostalgia frames themes that explore identity, gender, culture, and religion.
Jian-Javdan is a graduate of the Ontario College of Art & Design, Drawing & Painting Fine Arts program. She has received numerous awards namely, Emerging Artists Grant Recipient, Ontario Arts Council, Arts Etobicoke Award, and 401 Richmond Career-Launcher Prize. Her projects have been featured in many group exhibitions throughout Canada, with solo exhibitions at Arta Gallery, Scotiabank Nuit Blanche, and Gallery 401 in Toronto.
