Artist Bios:

Maziar Heidari:

Maziar started learning playing a Piano in 1980, attending lessons offered by Ardeshir Rohani, a well known piano instructor. He graduated from the Industrial Engineering program and then completed courses in composition, under supervision of Farhad Fakhreddini, well known Iranian composer and conductor.

Maziar graduated from Art University of Tehran with a Master Degree in Music Composition, and was granted the first rating degree for his thesis under the supervision of Ahmad Pejman. He has been a composer, assistant conductor, and pianist in Iran National Music Orchestra for more than 10 years. In 2006 he was awarded for the best composer in Fadjr Music Festival. He was also a Piano and Orchestration professor in Art University since 2004; he pursued private lessons in piano for almost 15 years.

Maziar is continuing his activities as a piano instructor and freelance composer in Canada. Mariar will perform with Pardis Orchestra in Tirgan Opening Ceremony on July 21, 2011; he will also perform at Tirgan Gala, on Sunday, July 24, 2011.

Kamelia Dara:

Kamelia is a prodigy of today's Persian Opera. Her voice has a warm timbre and a dark color.

Born to a musically inclined family, she discovered her passion for singing at the tender age of five and with her father's guidance. After taking voice lessons for some years in Iran she was already on her quest to become a professional vocal artist.

After performing and singing as a soloist in several musical halls and cultural centers in Tehran and Paris,Kamelia left Iran in 2002 to pursue her studies in Austria where she graduated with a Master degree in vocal studies in 2010.

She has participated in various opera projects in Austria, concerts in Graz, Cadogan Hallin London and key Meek Centre in Vancouver.

She sang as the Role of Fox in the opera " The Cunning Little Vixen" by LEOS JANACEK in Autumn 2009,The Role Lauretta in The Opera"giannis chichi" from Giacomo Puccini in Winter 2010 In MUMUTH, Music Theater in Graz .

King Raam is the lead singer of Hypernova, a post-punk band born in the undergrounds of Tehran. Growing up amongst a generation whose voices are often left unheard, he was able to draw inspiration from the simple art of music, a universal language recognized by all cultures, in order to express himself. His solo act invokes a subtle balance of emotion and feeling, tapping into the love, pain and struggles of his time. His compositions are sometimes simple mantric chords and other times completely symphonic, blending hallucinatory chant like voices with straight ahead melodies. After years of writing and singing in English, Raam has recently begun singing in Persian. The lyrics for his Persian songs have been written by Tara Aghdashloo.
Joining Raam onstage will be the modern electro duo Beat Syndrome. Their music provides a means of expressing emotions and concepts that are often too deep or profound to be expressed with words. Their production is an expression of life, and often where words fail, their music speaks.
Together they will be blending their rock ‘n’ roll influences with atmospheric and hypnotic electronic sounds in order to bring to life a surreal soundscape.

Sarv Ensemble is a traditional Persian music ensemble formed in 2010. Drawing inspiration from diverse classical and folk traditions across Iran, our aim is to perform and share this music through concerts, as well as workshops, outreach and community events. Shanbehzadeh Ensemble offers a unique variety of hypnotic dances and traditional music from southern Iran and more precisely from the unknown region of Boushehr. The main instruments include the Neyanban (Iranian bagpipe), Neyjoti (double flute), Dammam (dual faced percussion), Zarbetempo (percussion), traditional flute, Senj (local type of cymbals) and Boogh (horns).
Founded in 1990, the ensemble directed by Saeid Shanbehzadeh has delighted audiences in Iran, Asia, Australia, Europe and North America in numerous performances combining rhythms and melodies with Persian, Arabic, Indian and African influences.
Shanbehzadeh’s performances include instrumental and vocal music and dance. He plays Neyanban and Neyjofti and delivers dynamic songs and dance routines. He has performed in concerts with recognized artists as Billy Cobham and collaborated with the French Montalvo/Hervieu Company in creating and touring with the “Babelle Heureuse” show with more than two hundred performances in France, Europe and Brazil.

A singer in Jazz and Blues styles, Rana has been on a constant journey to re-explore and re-interpret Persian poetry in the context of such contemporary musical styles. Having played guitar since she was eight, Rana’s further progress in music was cut short in the post-revolutionary Iran when women were banned from performing music and singing. Her defiance of the status quo and passion for music precipitated her 1989 move to New York where she studied the works of Jazz icons Billie Holiday and Dinah Washington with great zeal and enthusiasm. In her Harlem studio, together with Guitarist Steven Toub, Rana Farhan produces songs that marry the lyrics of the 13th century mystic poet Rumi and other classics with American elements of Blues and Jazz. Rana’s virtual popularity in Iran has led Iranian filmmaker Bahman Ghobadi to feature her in his award winning film, “No One Knows About Persian Cats”. Rana Farhan has performed to sold-out audiences across North America and Europe.

Founded by Arjang Seyfizadeh in 2000, Vesal has performed in numerous events in Iran, Iraq, and Portugal. Vesal has also released four CDs in traditional Persian music and various regional music traditions including Bakhtiari and Kurdish.

Vahid Monji is a Toronto-based singer, songwriter, and musician. He sought vocal training with late Mohammad Nouri and guitar lessons with Payam Salehi. Sepideh Raissadat has a unique place amongst Iranian female vocalists for her daring, masterful solo performances where she combines vocals and setar. At the age of eighteen, she recorded her first album with Master Parviz Meshkatian. Sepideh was the first female vocalist to have a solo public performance in Iran after the 1979 revolution. As a child, she began studying Persian classical music with famous Iranian Diva Parisa and later with renowned masters Parviz Meshkatian and Mohammad-Reza Lotfi. Sepideh obtained a B.A. degree in painting and subsequently pursued her studies in musicology at the University of Bologna. She has been invited by prestigious institutions including the UNESCO, the Vatican, and international media such as BBC and RAI. She has had numerous performances in Europe, notably with Italian musicians, Franco Battiato and Andrea Parodi. Sepideh is currently continuing her academic research in Ethnomusicology at the University of Toronto, focusing on music in Sassanid era. Tirgan 2011 will present Sepideh Raissadat’s solo performances of vocal Persian music accompanied by setar.
